I research and make theatre as a form of sociocultural and psychophysical care. At the center of my care are underprivileged bodies situated at the intersection of cultures. Capable of effect and affect, vulnerable to psychological and physical damages, these bodies constantly transform as they traverse and embody cultural borders. Through the lens of theatre, I inquire into the interplay between agency and aesthetics in and through these bodies.

Often considered a ‘non-space’–space that is in-between, marginal and fragmented–these bodies are cultural frontiers as well as sites of trauma. They are where interculturalism is most dynamically registered and strategically staged. Yet, the theatricality of their performatives concurrently highlights the extent of impairment suffered and the repair required.

Physical training, performance pedagogy and the creative process situated in the discursive domains of interculturalism, postcolonialism and minor transnationalism are central to my scholastic inquiries.

Current research

My current research focuses on the ideas of probody artmaking and probody aesthetics.

I examine underprivileged crossborder encounters and their manifestation in performance pedagogy and practice, aesthetics and agency inscription. Through probody artmaking I seek to intervene in the conditions I have observed.

The scope of my research encompasses bodily transformation, performing objects, and community-based performances.

In 2015 I launched a research, practice, teaching and service nexus called ‘A Home on the Island.’ In the form of Practice as Research (PaR) Applied Theatre workshops, the nexus is an initiative that advocates transnational engagements.

In 2020 I started another series of PaR projects called ‘Probody Artmaking Lab.’ The projects seek to innovate an aesthetic that promotes artistic practices that care for the health and wellness of their practitioners.
